Biography

Yazdegerd I was called "The Sinner" by Zoroastrian priests for his tolerance of Christians and Jews, but "The Merciful" by his Christian subjects. He maintained excellent relations with Rome and even served as guardian to the young Roman emperor Theodosius II.
