Biography
Zamasp, also written Jamasp, was a son of Peroz I and the younger brother of Kavad I. When Kavad's reforms alienated the nobility and clergy, they deposed him around 496 and put Zamasp on the throne, expecting a more compliant king. Kavad escaped imprisonment and returned with Hephthalite backing, and the nobles agreed to restore him rather than fight; Zamasp was reportedly spared but probably blinded. Scholars differ on whether his reign ended in 498 or 499.
