Khosrow III

Khosrow III was a claimant who lived among the Turks and returned to Iran when he heard of the turmoil after the fall of Khosrow II. He took control of part of Khorasan and ruled there for a few months in 630 before the local governor killed him. Sources disagree on whether he was a son of Kavad II or of Khosrow II; the historian C. E. Bosworth thought the latter more likely. His coins copy the winged crown of Khosrow II and show him beardless, which is very rare among Sasanian kings; some catalogues give the attribution and dates of these coins more broadly.
