Bahram VI Chobin

Bahram Chobin was a general of the great Parthian House of Mihran who won fame by defeating Turkic and Hephthalite invaders in 588-589. After Hormizd IV dismissed and humiliated him he rebelled, and in 590, with Hormizd murdered and Khosrow II newly crowned, he took Ctesiphon and was proclaimed king, presenting himself as a restorer of Arsacid rule. Khosrow II, aided by the Byzantine emperor Maurice, defeated him in 591; Bahram fled to the Western Turks, where he was later assassinated at Khosrow's instigation. Sources differ slightly on the timing of his formal coronation, placing it in summer 590 or at the new year in March 591.
